| The band runs several fundraisers throughout the year to help support the band. Funds go into two funds, the General fund and Student's individual accounts. Check the website home page and the monthly newsletters for up dates on the beginning and end of each fundraiser and who you can contact to help out. Most of the cost of running the band comes from these fundraisers. General funds contribute to things like the arranger for music, awards presented at the year-end banquet, drill writers, equipment repair, entry fees for competitions, flags and material for the colorguard, fees for music, percussion equipment supplies, props, sheet music, band camp staff fees, transportation to and from games and competitions, equipment truck rental fees and fuel, uniform accessories, uniform cleaning, use of field facilities, newsletter costs, drinks for games and competitions, and website costs. Student's individual accounts mainly help pay for the costs of going on out of town trips like the Tournament of Bands competition in Las Cruces and the annual spring trip. Pageant of Bands (POB): In addition to great competition with bands from around New Mexico, our students have the opportunity to earn sizable monies in their individual band accounts through the sale of ads for the POB program. POB publishes a large magazine-style program which includes band information as well as many ads. Each student receives 70% of the cost of each ad they sell. Wilson stadium is filled with potential customers who see the ads in the program. POB ad packets are available on the website home page during the summer and beginning of the school year. End dates will be posted on the website home page and in the monthly newsletters. Entertainment Books: These are sold at the beginning of each school year. Students receive a set dollar amount for each book sold. All funds raised go in the individual student's accounts. See updates on the website home page and monthly newsletters for the amounts students can raise and begin and end dates. Magazine Sales: Magazine subscriptions are sold during the beginning of the school year. This is a Student account fundraiser and a percentage of the monies raised will going into their accounts. See updates on the website home page and monthly newsletters for the amounts students can raise and begin and end dates. Balloon Fiesta: The band sells items for Walgreens during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. We get a percentage of the total sales we bring in plus a set monetary donation to the band. This is a combined general fund/student account fundraiser. Parking and admission to the balloon grounds are free. This is a great opportunity for students and their family to add to their accounts. All family members and friends are welcome to help and the students will get credit for anyone who works in their name. We walk the field selling batteries, film, one-time cameras, and pins. The Balloon Fiesta is the first full week of October and we need volunteers on each morning and several of the evenings. Sign-ups for all shifts will be available on the uniform distribution nights, during booster meetings, or you can sign up by calling the chairperson of this fundraiser. Cookie Dough Sales: Students pre-sell orders for Cookie dough in the fall of year and get a set dollar amount for each tub of dough they sell. The dough is delivered several weeks after the end of the pre-sale. All monies for this fundraiser go into the student accounts. See updates on the website home page and monthly newsletters for the amounts students can raise and begin and end dates. Craft Fair: The Band hosts an annual craft fair on the first Saturday of December in the halls and cafeteria of La Cueva High School. Monies are raised through fees charged to crafters, a silent auction of donated craft items, food vendor fees, and a bake goods/beverage sale. All band students are expected to help out with the fair and all proceeds go into the General fund. All parents are encouraged to help out during set-up the preceeding friday night, helping crafters set up and take down their displays on the day of the fair, and helping run the silent auction and bake sale. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year and contributes the most to the General fund. |
